 About the Speaker:

 Robert Curbeam is the Senior Vice President for Space Capture at Maxar Technologies.  Prior to joining Maxar, he served in a variety of functional and profit and loss roles at Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and the ARES Corporation.

Prior to his work in the corporate world, Curbeam was a NASA astronaut, flying three space shuttle missions and completing seven spacewalks.  He also held a wide range of positions with NASA, including the Director of Safety, Reliability, and Quality Assurance for the Constellation program, deputy director of Flight Crew Operations and Spacecraft Communicator (CAPCOM) branch chief. Curbeam also served as second-in-command for safety across the entire agency as Deputy Associate Administrator of Safety and Mission Assurance at NASA headquarters.

Curbeam is a retired Captain, having served 23 years in the United States Navy.  He is a graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School. He was the lead project officer for the F-14 Air-to-Ground Weapons Separation Flight Test Program, and has logged more than 3,000 flight hours in 25 different aircraft and spacecraft.

Curbeam holds the Degree of Aeronautical Engineer and a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering, both from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He received his bachelor’s degree with merit in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  He also serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Challenger Center for Space Science Education, and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Naval Aviation.
